This introductory course will cover the fiduciary lifecycle (from application to termination); the general purpose of a fiduciary and roles and limitations of various fiduciary appointments.

Further, participants will develop a “working” understanding of mental health disorders and the systems designed to assist persons with mental incapacities.

Emphasis must always be on empowerment, preferences and safety of those we serve. However, the fiduciary is often caught between her duties and the wishes of those in need. Further, economic and political roadblocks are frequently interfere with our ability to fulfill our fiduciary responsibilities.

Connecticut’s fiduciary laws are among the most progressive in the country. An analysis of the technical and practical application of these laws will inform best practices for fiduciaries universally.
This in depth course will drill down to real life vignettes and scenarios where the complexity of the fiduciary roles and limitations are explored and discussed in detail.

Ethical Decision Making for Caregivers, Fiduciaries and Families

Decision-making impacts all aspects of a relationship with a client or family member in need. What kind of decision maker are you? Do you know your strengths and weaknesses? How do you react during a crisis?

This workshop discussed the current ethical dilemmas, behaviors and attitudes about decision making for others. We’ll explore interventions and guidelines to ensure moral, legal and clinical best practices.
